Mr. Judd McKean is Anchor's English teacher. I began teaching in 1979 at a great alternative high school called New Directions here in Sarasota County. Like the Anchor Academy, New Directions focused on teaching individual students one on one. It, also like Anchor, was enormously successful but the Superintendent at the time deemed it too expensive and eliminated the program.
I left New directions in 1994 to fish commercially for ten years but got tired of killing fish and was lucky enough to be hired into the Anchor Program three years ago. The good work we do with kids is really satisfying and I would not want to teach anywhere but here.
