           WELCOME

Welcome to the homepage for the Visual & Performing Arts Small Learning Communities (SLC's) at Venice High School.  We presently have over 500 students enrolled in our SLC's with over 20 faculty members and several community partners serving on our advisory committee.

Students in our academy share an interest in the fine arts, performing arts, literature, world languages, and technology.  Students may also study at the honors level in their program of studies to best meet their needs in post secondary education.  In addition to our extensive course offerings in the arts and communications, we also offer dual enrollment, advanced placement, and executive internship courses.

Through our TRIBE (Teens Remaining Interested By Engagement) program we meet with our students weekly to help them pursue a path toward excellence.  In our SLC we have faculty from each of the traditional subject areas offered at Venice High School.  Teacher's meet monthly to discuss how we might better meet the needs of our students.  We invite members of our Advisory Committee to also attend those meetings.  Our Advisory Committee is made up of representatives from the Venice community.

Each January VHS presents a Literacy Festival which culminates with master classes and nationally recognized authors.  In our academy we make efforts to contribute to this celebration each year to promote the enjoyment and educational opportunities offered through art and literature.

In March we participate in our SLC Fair to showcase students and courses to all VHS students.  This is followed by a evening presentation to 8th grade students who will be joining us in the future.  This presentation helps students explore what courses are of interest to them and might best meet their needs in the future.

We welcome you to explore the links to other aspects of our program found to the left of this message.  This includes our course offerings, faculty and links to their websites, community partners, and links to help you communicate with us.  Please do not hesitate to contact us for further information or to offer suggestions.
