Classroom Announcements November 12, 2008
Dear Parents,
Math: We are working on chapter 24: Customary Measurement. We have spent a lot of class time practicing measuring with halves, fourths, and eighths. Challenge your child to measure numerous household items for more practice using a ruler. The 6’s multiplication test is tomorrow, and the first Drops in the Bucket Quiz is this Friday. Please make sure your child is studying.
Writing: We have begun mapping out Narrative pieces of writing as our transition from Expository to Narrative writing. Please encourage your child to always write in complete detailed sentences.
Science: We are continuing on with chapter 2: Sound. Students are very interested. The chapter 2 test will be next Tuesday.
Social Studies: We are continuing chapter 11: Government of the People. AR points and Reading Logs: Students need to be reading for 30 minutes nightly and completing their reading log (this is a work habits grade) as well as reading and testing on their AR levels. Your child received his/her new AR levels and goal. Please encourage them to work responsibly toward their goals. Progress Reports go home November 21st so your students should have at least half of their AR points by November 17th.
State Mandated Extra P.E.: Please make sure that your child is dressed for indoor/outdoor physical activity. We have added many new video programs to our list of activities.
After School Writing Support: Mrs. Alcala, a fourth grade teacher, will be holding an after school writing support group. If you signed your child up for this writing group it begins tomorrow after school from 3:15-4:30 P.M. Please make sure your child has transportation home at that time.
Upcoming Events: The week of November 24th we will be doing an activity to go along with the book Stone Soup. We will be requesting some items to make our soup, bread, and pumpkin pie. Also we will be looking for volunteers, more to follow. Also, in December the 4th grade will be taking a field trip to Spanish Point to complement our Social Studies curriculum on Florida History. More details to follow. If you are interested in helping out on either of these events please make sure you are PALS approved. Thank you for your support.
Progress Reports: Progress Reports for 2nd Quarter go home on November 21st. Please make sure your child is correcting graded papers for an improved grade and on track with AR points.
