QUARTER ESSAY PROJECT
Day 1 and Day 2: 90 minute timed essay writing related to the quarter theme and representative of the real IB Language B German Exam test prompts. Juniors may use their German-English dictionary (but not on the semester mock exams). There must be at least 6 cohesive words used correctly. The minimum word count must be met and not exceeded by more than 20 words. Day 3 and Day 4: Seniors and Juniors work in mixed groups to complete 3 Peer Review Sheets. Day 5: Students rewrite and improve their essay in a double-spaced format. Please use pen, only write on one side of the paper, and only use 1 line to srike through errors. Neat penmanship is required. Day 6: Approximately 2 weeks later, essays are returned. Every error has been coded by the instructor. Students use the Inventory Of Errors Sheet to tally their mistakes from 10 different categories. Day 7 - Day 9: Students write a Report of Errors using the Coding Sheet. This is an opportunity for students to analyze their errors, review language rules and develop a plan for avoiding the same mistake in the future. The less errors, the shorter the report! Day 10: Students write their improved FINAL COPY of their Quarter Essay (with ink, single spaced, including a word count). Using the IB Paper 2 Rubric, students self-score thier work to become familiar with the grading criteria. Students then staple all their work from Day 1 through Day 10 (oldest on the bottom to newest on top) and fill out a Self-Analysis Sheet that becomes the cover sheet for the entire project. This final essay is scored by the instructor as if it were the student's actual IB Language B Paper 2. GERMAN STUDENTS CAN BE VERY PROUD OF THIS WORK!
