How will my child be dismissed?

We will leave the classroom at 2:05.  Please be sure to use the name tags provided in the registration packet to facilitate a smooth and safe dismissal procedure.

YMCA (Afterschool program) will be dropped off with YMCA personnel.

Car Riders
will be walked to the front of the Gym and supervised by school personnel until they are picked up.

Bus Riders will be taken to assigned buses as indicated on their name tag.

If you change the way your child will be going home, you must send the teacher a note or call the office prior to 2:00.  Otherwise, your child will be sent home in their usual manner.

How do I pay for school lunches?

Your child may purchase a school lunch or bring one from home.  Any lunch money needs to be sent in an envelope or zip lock bag labeled with the student's name and PIN (Personal Identification Number) or paid directly Laurel Nokomis Food Service.  The PIN or Personal Identification Number insures that your child's account will be properly credited.  You are welcome to meet your child for lunch in the cafeteria but you must sign in at the front office.  K/1 menu choices will be sent home each month.

What do I need to do if my child is absent?

Call the office
to notify them of your child's absence.  Remember you must also send a note with your child when they return to school explaining their absence.  Please include your child's full name, teacher's name, date of absence (s) in the excuse.  Absence must be reported and explained by a parent or guardian note within 3 days after the student returns to school.  See student Handbook for a list of excused absences.  Students are marked Tardy if thy arrive after 8:30 AM.

Can I celebrate my child's birthday at school?

Children may celebrate their birthdays in school.  You are welcome to send in cupcakes, cookies or other individual treats (snacks) to celebrate your child's birthday.  Please let the teacher know ahead of time if you plan to celebrate your child's birthday at school.

How can I contact you if I have questions or concerns?

Your child will use a  daily folder to carry communications between school and home.  A note is usually the best way to contact me.  You may also e-mail me here at school.  I will try to respond on the following day.  I do not take phone calls during the school day as this directly impacts instructional time with my students.  You may certainly call the school and leave a message for me.  Of course, if there is an emergency, please let the office staff know.

Will my child have homework?

Homework packets are sent home most Mondays and should be returned to the classroom on Friday. Please monitor  your child's work and provide any needed assistance. Activities should reinforce topics taught in the classroom. Sign the large envelope each week and add any comments in the space provided.

Will my kindergarten student receive report cards?

Reports to parents will occur every nine weeks,  I may hold parent-teacher conferences the first and third grading periods to discuss your child's progress and review work samples.  You will receive a formal and detailed written report card after the second and fourth grading periods.

Can my child take medication at school?

The school clinic will administer all medications.  Please contact the nurse if your child is to be given any medicine during school hours.  Also, be sure that all health information and contact numbers are kept up to date.  Do not send medicine to school in our child's bookbag.  This includes cough drops and medicated lip balms.

What should my child wear to school?

Please dress your child in comfortable clothing for school.  Except for special events, it is best to dress children in "play" clothes instead of "dress" clothes since some activities require the children to sit on the floor, participate in sports or play outside.  Spagetti straps and tanks tops are prohibits.  Because we do physical activities during the day, it is recommended that children do not wear flip-flops or sandals to school.  Children must wear sneakers to school on the days we have Physical Education.
