Mrs. Rush's Class News
September 25, 2008

Dear Family,

Well, it is pretty obvious that I have not found a secretary yet.  I have not updated this site for 3 weeks.  Sorry.   I must get better.  Thank goodness I send a paper trail home on Mondays.

We are reading our sixth story.   This week it is Historical Fiction.  It is a story about Babe Ruth and a young boy who sells papers near Yankee Stadium during the depression.  It was a timely story for us, since Yankee Stadium will be torn down and replaced.  The children also saw a photo of  the "BABE".   The skill we have been working on this week is Fact and Opinion.  Facts are true, can be proven and often involve numbers.   An opinion is something that someone feels, believes, or thinks.   Test your child by asking him/her ot find a fact or an a opinion in what he/she is reading.

I have the codes for FCATexplorer, but we are not quite ready to start.   Each child will bring home a password and user name.  We came in First in VMath live again this year.  Go Tatum.

In science we are starting energy.   Another timely lesson, since it talks about renewable and non-renewable resources like fossil fuels, coal and natural gas.   Mrs. Ganley did a lesson on atoms and molecules.   No Kidding!!

In Social Studies we are doing map skills and compass roses.   Your child can use a compass rose to find where states lie in the continental US.

In Math we have just finished rounding numbers to the thousands.  Test tomorrow.  Next week we shall begin Chapter 6.   Money.  Something that is near and dear to today's children.

Have I forgotten anything?  Probably.  Please forgive me if I have left something out of the letter.  I am starting conferences and shall contact you soon for a date.   Thanks for your patience.

Talk to you in a week or two or a month.  Kidding.  I will get better, because I know I cannot get any worse doing these letters.

Jacki R.
