We decided to write another story together, which includes dialogue. Last week and this week, students wrote stories which are now being turned into folded books. Many students even have their books illustrated and ready to read to you at our picnic on Wednesday! Below you will see our second class story.
One sunny afternoon, Anne and her friends Fred and Rachel were snorkling in the blue, sparkly ocean. They were swimming and enjoying the sea plants when all of a sudden, they realized the fish were staring at them. "I don't like this," complained Anne. So, first, she waved her arms wildly to startle the fish, but the fish just waved back. "I don't believe it!" exclaimed Rachel. Then, Fred suggested, "Maybe they are hungry." We tossed a granola bar to them, but they patted their bellies to tell us they were already full. "Burp!" bubbled one bright yellow fish. Finally, all three of us made scary faces and loudly screamed underwater. "Aargh! Bubble!" Speedy-quick, the fish swam away and let us enjoy our trip in peace. "Yay!Teamwork works!" we shouted, and continued snorkeling.
Our class wrote a story using the Writers in Control format. Our story has characters, a setting, a problem, events attempting to solve the problem, a solution, and a satisfying ending. We wrote as a collaborative effort, so it is not perfect and does not have details or dialogue yet, but we followed the format and enjoyed ourselves. We hope you enjoy reading it!
First draft: One sunny morning, my family and I went camping by a lake. As we were building a fire for lunch, a bear came and ate all of our food. First, we ran after the bear to get the food back, but the bear was too scary. Then, we went home to get more food, but the fridge was empty. Finally, we made traps and caught a wild pig. It was tasty! Then we went to sleep.
