Hi! My name is Ms. Thomas. When I first moved to Florida, from Iowa, in the summer of 2004, I moved to Punta Gorda. Four weeks later, my apartment was completely destroyed in Hurricane Charley, so I was forced to move to the closest town with apartments left--Sarasota. Boy am I thankful--I can't imagine living anywhere else now!
This is my sixth year at Wilkinson, boy how time flies! I love fifth grade, partly because of all the great things we get to do and learn (from the scientific method to American history, we'll definitely keep busy this year) but mostly because I love 5th graders! I love watching them grow first into independent thinkers, and then into interdependent thinkers--working together to accomplish more than they could on their own! Heads up parents, a lot of change happens in fifth grade, so be ready for it!
For the past three years I have been fortunate enough to get to teach the fifth grade tech class. The endless possibilities of how we can use technology to excite students and encourage life long learning and collaboration excite me to no end! I am an avid technology user myself both in and out of school. I have a masters degree from National-Luis University in Curriculum and Instruction with a specialty in Technology. I have been known to make an excel spreadsheet in my spare time...
When I'm not at school, which suprisingly does happen from time to time :), I enjoy being around friends, reading, or building/making things. |
